Eclection Wedding Photography | A Year in Review | 2014

2014 was a successful year both as Brighton Photo and with my personal and commercial/editorial work as Heather Shuker.   Highlights from the other side include seeing my Moscow Series being exhibited in London, the Brighton Photo Fringe and being published on the BBC and the Guardian.   Editorially I continued to work and create with Things & Ink Magazine and together with portrait shoots, I art directed and photographed my second cover for the Stripped Back Issue.

For Brighton Photo I photographed 25 weddings (as planned) including weddings in Thailand, Croatia and France.   Within the UK I shot weddings in London and the South East with a few Northern road trips to Newcastle, Manchester and ended my year in the snow covered Peak District on the 29th of December.

I only shoot 25 weddings as I like to have time to create in other areas of photography.  I loved all my weddings and my couples and their love letters are a testament to our relationship, before the wedding, on the day and beyond.

I have made a small selection of photographs below and an extended selection on the slide show.   As a creative arts photographer I make beautifully composed photographs using light/shadow, line, shape and of colour.  At a conscious and subconscious level I bring these core elements of design into my work.    At the same time I capture life as it is and it’s all about aticipating and reacting to capture the emotion, laughter and happenings  just at the right time.   As Henri Cartier-Bresson said “Your eye must see a composition or an expression that life itself offers you, and you must know with intuition when to click the camera.”

In 2015 you will continue to see me refine my style more – with a determination to dig deeper into my subconscious mind to make unique images and reference classical painting and light.

Highlights for 2015 for Brighton Photo will be the re-brand with a new website coming soon!    August I will be photographing the winner of the Things & Ink Wedding Competition Roxanne and Greg pictured below.

Commercially I will also be launching a new company for my branding and event work. Personally I will be making a second trip to Eastern Europe with photography collective Map6 and working through a number of portrait projects closer to home.

Finally, I am working on another exciting project with my former class mate from Central St Martins Caroline from The Twins all about and on wedding photography ..watch this space !
